South Carolina: Wellford residents step up to fill blessing box

Aug 24, 2023

The latest breaking updates, delivered straight to your email inbox.

Citizens in Wellford, South Carolina, really stepped up this weekend after police posted a picture of an empty blessing box.

Blessing boxes are becoming increasingly more common in communities around the country. They are stocked with nonperishable food items and other items that might be considered a blessing to someone who finds themselves in need. Items are anonymously donated and anonymously received and available at any time day or night.

The post on Sunday at 1:15 p.m. said the following:

"Help is needed; the Wellford City Police Department has seen an increase in the blessing boxes in the community being empty more and more often. If you can, please drop off can food and other items to these blessing boxes located in the Wellford and Startex communities."

By 6:30 p.m. Sunday the box was full of food for the community.

The page posted updates throughout the day, thanking community members for donating.
